C venues Showcases Experimental Roster for Edfringe 2018

With 147 shows on its books, C venues is still relatively small by the standards of Edfringe. The venue is placing well in terms of numbers however, coming in third in our recent Venue Analysis (though has since dropped to fourth place behind Gilded Balloon). This year they're spread across seven venues in Edinburgh's New and Old Towns, with an even mix of genres skewing slightly in the direction of theatrical productions. An inexplicably slapdash press launch on Thursday showcased some of the shows on C venues' roster for Edfringe 2018, but we're not convinced we saw the best of what they have to offer given that our Trends tracker is picking up a good deal of popular support for acts which weren't featured.

A comic exploration of the world of millennial dating, newly written theatre production 1-2-1 This Sex Is Real (from Selfie Productions) heads up the running for C venues. It's been a daily player in our Top 25 (Daily Mentions 3.4, Positivity Share 1.1%), and sold out on the first night of its run. In a strong second place for C venues is Lucille and Cecilia from Bang Average Theatre (Daily Mentions 2.3, Positivity Share 0.6%). This newly written piece blends physical theatre and comedy to explore the daily lives of two sea lions. In third, the Baby Paradise productions (in two parts) from German company bambule.babys are generating a stir (Daily Mentions 1.6, Positivity Share 0.3%). These immersive physical theatre productions retell the Hades-Persephone myth to explore the barbarities of a hyper-sexualised culture.
