We Are Monsters X Glass

A #doublebill deftly directed by Zach Wyatt, Just A Regular House Productions' “We Are Monsters” & “Glass” offer two different takes on what #spooky humour can look like...

In Joseph Ryan-Hughes’ “We Are Monsters”, we meet Caitlyn & Kyle (Laura Mugford & Ryan-Hughes), two young siblings dressed like lake monsters who enjoy playing pranks on campers in the woods🏕️ Enter a “ghost-whisperer” (Moses Alexander), meticulously decked out in a safari hunter-like outfit. He calls the siblings out for disrespecting the enigmatic world of genuine monsters & offers them guidance to make contact with such creatures...

The story's lively performances set the mood for a giggle-full ride, but the narrative takes a sombre turn when the characters reveal that they may not be who they claim to be. While ideal for a #Halloween night, our sixth sense tells us that there are hidden depths to this story waiting to be uncovered —the ending seems less like a conclusion & more like a pivotal moment in the story, hinting at more intrigue to come...

☠️

In Connor McCrory’s “Glass”, we meet Brody Jenkins (McCrory) in the aftermath of a costume contest at his workplace #HalloweenBash. As he returns to his ninth-floor office, he’s greeted by an anonymous caller☎️, who claims to be lurking aboard a conveniently halted train outside the building. What begins as a cruel phone prank takes an intriguing turn, digging into Jenkins’ darkest memories & tossing his emotions around like a yo-yo🪀

McCrory delivers a riveting performance from beginning to end. He starts by teasing us with the man’s chucklesome frustrations over his failed cowboy costume, just to stupefy us with a powerful portrayal of a panic attack & a rollercoaster of mood swings. His interaction with the enigmatic voice on the other end of the phone remains engaging & McCrory’s unwavering commitment to his role keeps us on board throughout despite a convoluted & lengthy script...

In a nutshell, while “We Are Monsters” leaves us holding our breath for more, “Glass” has us longing for conciseness. But rest assured, the committed performances & surprising turns won't fail to satisfy your Halloween cravings. 3/5⭐
